Mechanical Design Engineer


Job Description:


Mechanical Engineer with experience in thermal performance and expansion of materials related to the design, manufacture and performance of a vehicle exhaust system. Able to interact with analysts to perform CFD on the system, experience in acoustics is a plus. Able to interact with designers to integrate system into the hull.


Thermodynamics background able to size and analyze heat exchangers for the vehicle cooling system. Capable of interacting with vendors over the procurement cycle of heat exchanger components. Able to interact with analysts for CFD and system level performance.


Mechanical background with hydraulic power and control experience. Would be responsible for writing the procurement specification for a hydraulic manifold with imbedded thermostat controls for the hydraulic system & Would work with the engine vendor to assure all hydraulic circuits meet required performance specifications over the variety of operational scenarios.



Required Skills

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 6-9 years of applicable experience fewer years with an advanced degree
  • Develop sub-system/component level requirements and design concepts.
  • Design, select, integrate components
  • Source select and interface with suppliers
  • Perform engineering analysis to evaluate sub-system/component designs.
  • Work with design services to create/release detailed models and drawings.
  • Support concurrent engineering, procurement and prototype build/integration activities.
  • Perform preliminary design and analysis
  • Work in an Integrated Product Team environment and be able to communicate across functional organizations
  • Trouble shooting vehicle subsystems
  • Performing failure analysis & be able to provide technical direction for corrective action solutions
  • Write technical reports & modification instructions
  • Pro Engineering (Pro E) and or Unigrapics NX
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is required
  • Must be able to work in office, shop, test lab and test site environments
  • Must be able to work overtime if required
