Sr Mechanical Design Engineer

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide strong leadership to drive mechanical technical design and project coordination.

  • Attend Client and Internal Team meetings.

  • Manage Project Schedules and Budgets as well as provide weekly reports to communicate project status, issues, and needs.

  • Prepare process equipment inquiry/RFQ packages

  • Specify vessels, pumps, exchangers, rotating equipment and other process equipment.

  • Prepare equipment datasheets with full mechanical equipment and system specifications.

  • Perform technical and economic evaluations, bid tabulations, and prepare recommendations.

  • Prepare process equipment procurement requisition packages.

  • Conduct and/or participate in pre-inspection / kickoff meetings with process equipment fabricators.

  • Review vendor documents for compliance with project specifications and industry codes and standards.

  • Prepare engineering man-hour estimates for new work.

  • Participate in field site visits to gather information.

  • Assist in interpretation of engineering drawings and specifications




Requirements:



  • 10 - 15 years of experience in the Process Plant, Petroleum Refining, and / or Petrochemical sector.

  • Must maintain PE licensure in the State of Texas or have reciprocity.

  • BSME

  • Strong background in heat exchangers, pumps and materials.

  • Background in the specification of static / rotating equipment and materials is required.

  • Working knowledge of the ASME Codes for pressure vessels and piping systems is required.

  • Working knowledge and familiarity with API Standards and Recommended Practices applicable to the specification of refinery static and rotating equipment.


 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills required to provide effective inter-discipline, client, vendor, and construction coordination on projects.

  • Availability for field assignments involving travel to sites involving work in industrial facilities.

  • Highly motivated with ability to work in an interactive and open team environment.

  • Self-starter with initiative and ability to complete engineering deliverables and tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prepare design calculations, technical documents, and drawings.

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn pipe stress analysis utilizing Caesar II software.
