Purpose of Role:
Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design of the electrical distribution systems for the facilities Engineering is contracted to design and build. A Senior Electrical Engineer is expected to handle most job functions with little technical assistance, and is expected to work under the general supervision of the VP – Engineering – Instrumentation & Electrical.
Determines plant running and connected loads based on project P&IDs, processing equipment specifications, and vendor data
Reviews vendor data for correct electrical specifications
Interfaces with client and utility representatives to determine requirements of plant power distribution systems
Performs system studies, including but not limited to Load Flow, Short Circuit, Coordination and Arc Flash Studies, modifying system designs as necessary based on study results
Performs sizing, selection, and specification of electrical components (including but not limited to switchgear, motor control centers, panelboards, UPS systems, and associated protection devices and relays) to meet project, client and utility requirements, taking into account results of system studies, and create datasheets as appropriate and required
Reviews Requests for Quote and makes purchasing recommendations, and reviews Purchase Orders prior to their issuance to vendors
With assistance from I&E designers, plans layout of electric power distribution within processing facilities, and develops electrical design deliverables including but not limited to system one-line diagrams, equipment layout and elevation drawings, panelboard layouts and wiring diagrams, motor schematics, cable schedules, control system layout and termination drawings, electrical equipment installation details, etc.
Coordinates with I&E Control Technicians for control system power requirements and necessary interaction, such as status indications and alarms, between the plant control system and electrical gear
Programs protection relays based on results of system studies and requirements of electrical equipment
Visits plant sites during construction to inspect equipment and monitor construction progress and correctness
Participates in Factory Acceptance Tests and inspects completed installations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards
Performs other tasks related to the Electrical and/or Instrumentation & Control designs of the plants as necessary
Educates and train other team members as necessary
Experienced with sizing, selecting, and specifying electrical components for low- and medium voltage systems
Experienced with National Electrical Code, API Recommended Practices and other codes and standards applicable to the gas processing industry
Experienced with SKM Power Tools or similar power system analysis software, and load flow, short circuit, and arc flash studies
Bachelor’ s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university, or equivalent
