Network Design Engineer

Softworld Inc.’ s client is seeking a Network Design Engineer in Pittsfield, MA. Details Below:

  • Participates in requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, trade studies, systems integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition studies of system elements direct supervision
  • Researches and analyzes data, such as vendor products, COTS components, GFE/CFE/BFE, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
  • Supports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle
  • Develops and evaluates systems, networks and information systems to ensure designs meet applicable governmental security specifications
  • May provide system accreditation/certification evaluation and test support to ensure all technical security features (e.g., identification, authentication, access control, labeling, and auditing) of the system are considered and function properly
  • May develop system security documentation on both new and fielded information systems
    Plans sub tasks for activities described above
  • Creative, innovative responsibilities requiring advanced decision-making skills
    Defines processes for technical platforms, system specifications, input/output and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibility
  • Developing professional expertise, applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action
  • Identifies, analyzes and resolves system design weaknesses
  • Receives instructions from immediate supervisor
  • Works under general supervision
  • Contact with Deputy Program Managers Engineering (DPME) and other professionals within the Engineering department
  • May have some contact outside Engineering or with external customers
  • Travel may be required
  • Provides resolution to problems of moderate scope
  • Keeps abreast of technology trend

  • Familiarity with technical standards
  • Considerable knowledge of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories
  • Considerable awareness of business objective and Engineering role in achieving
  • Considerable knowledge of requirements management and system modeling tools
    Ability to grasp and apply new information quickly and able to handle more complex assignments
  • Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little direction
  • Considerable proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Considerable written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Builds productive internal/external working relationships
  • Considerably skilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
  • Ability to clearly recognize and report relevant to sound systems engineering design

  • Candidates should have a minimum of a CCENT, with preference on those with a CCNA or CCNP. Other preferred certifications include A+, Network+, Security+, CEH, CISSP, etc.
    Candidates should have experience with other areas of IT Design, including Virtual Machines, Storage, Backups, Windows, Linux and/or Application & SW support.
  • Candidates should have knowledge on what Systems engineering is and how it applies to and differs from the traditional IT specialist role.
  • Candidates with a leadership mentality and career growth expectations are preferred.
