Software Engineer II/III – Advanced Reconnaissance Vehicle (ARV) Location: 1010 Gause Blvd, Slidell, Louisiana 70458, United States
Client: Textron Systems (Electronic Systems) About the Program Textron Systems is developing the Cottonmouth® ARV—a modular, high-tech reconnaissance vehicle supporting the US Marine Corps. The ARV leverages advanced autonomy, sensors, and a MOSA platform with a Ground Vehicle Operating System (GVOS) using the Tactical Assault Kit Extended (TAK-X). It provides amphibious mobility, electronic warfare capabilities, and superior survivability. Role Overview You will participate in full-cycle software development, from concepts to lab and offsite integration and evaluation. This involves developing new ARV features, leading small projects, mentoring teammates, and directly interfacing with customers. Responsibilities:
  • Develop, integrate, and evaluate software for the ARV across the product lifecycle.
  • Execute complex software engineering tasks using technical acumen and problem-solving skills.
  • Conduct technical reviews of work products.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and leadership for small development teams.
  • Interface directly with customers and participate in field testing.
  • Support offsite integration and evaluation activities (travel 10–15%).
Required Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship with ability to obtain DoD security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in CS, Engineering, or related field (Master’s or PhD a plus).
    • Level II: Bachelor’s + 2+ yrs (or Master’s + 1 yr)
    • Level III: Bachelor’s + 5+ yrs (or Master’s/PhD + 3+ yrs)
  • Strong experience with embedded, robotics, autonomous, or automotive systems.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, and/or Java.
  • Experience with shell scripting and developing system interfaces (Network/Serial/CAN).
  • Deep understanding of OOA/OOD principles.
  • Git or Mercurial workflow, CI/CD pipelines, and defect tracking tools.
  • Familiarity with robotics: sensors, actuators, algorithms, field integration and test.
  • Experience or familiarity with MIL-STD-882E, UML/MBSE tools (MagicDraw a plus).
  • Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior engineers.
  • Comfortable in Unix-based development environments.
Preferred/Desirable:
  • Experience in autonomous vehicle or robotics industry.
  • Experience in field-testing and system integration.
  • Hands-on experience with MagicDraw or similar modeling tools.
Compensation (Contract & Direct Conversion):
  • Contract: $70–$95/hr. Candidates slightly above range considered (notify recruiter).
  • Direct Hire/Salaries: (Level III preferred with 5+ years)
    • 2 years: $100,000–$110,999
    • 3 years: $111,000–$121,999
    • 4 years: $122,000–$134,999
    • 5 years: $135,000–$145,999
    • 6 years: $146,000–$156,999
    • 7 years: $157,000–$167,999
    • 8 years: $168,000–$175,000

  • This is an onsite position in Slidell, LA (some travel required).
